Karla Silva (Mexicali, Baja California, 1978) is a visual artist based in Mexico City. Her practice unfolds through assemblage, material exploration, and mosaic. The body and the earth are conceived as interconnected territories. Meshes and fragments configure structures that evoke maps of memory and sustain a continuous dialogue between the physical and the symbolic.
She trained in sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and pursued studies in literature and philosophy at La Sorbonne. She later learned the art of mosaic in Ravenna, Italy, and completed an internship with the French heritage organization REMPART, where she contributed to the restoration of a medieval mosaic. She holds a Master’s in Contemporary Art and Business (CENTRO / Sotheby’s Institute of Art) and is currently enrolled in the Contemporary Art Diploma at MUAC.
She has participated in group exhibitions and residencies in Mexico, Turkey, and France. In 2025, she received the Lagos Residency Award in Mexico City, granted by the XXV Biennial of Visual Arts of Baja California.
In her work, folds, repetitions, and flows operate as conceptual and intuitive structures that draw from the thought of Gilles Deleuze, where matter and time are understood as processes in continuous transformation.
Karla Silva (Mexicali, Baja California, 1978) es una artista visual radicada en la Ciudad de México. Su práctica se desarrolla a través del ensamblaje, la exploración material y el mosaico. El cuerpo y la tierra son concebidos como territorios interconectados. Las mallas y los fragmentos configura estructuras que evocan mapas de memoria y sostienen un diálogo continuo entre lo físico y lo simbólico.
Se formó en escultura en la École des Beaux-Arts de París y cursó estudios de literatura y filosofía en La Sorbonne. Aprendió el arte del mosaico en Rávena, Italia, y realizó una práctica en la organización francesa REMPART, dedicada a la preservación del patrimonio, donde colaboró en la restauración de un mosaico medieval. Es egresada de la Maestría en Arte Contemporáneo y Negocios (CENTRO / Sotheby’s Institute of Art) y actualmente cursa el Diplomado en Arte Contemporáneo del MUAC.
Ha participado en exposiciones colectivas y residencias en México, Turquía y Francia. En 2025 recibió el Premio de Residencia en Lagos, Ciudad de México, otorgado por la XXV Bienal de Artes Visuales de Baja California.
En su obra, los pliegues, las repeticiones y los flujos operan como conceptos e intuiciones que remiten al pensamiento de Gilles Deleuze, donde la materia y el tiempo se conciben como procesos en constante transformación.
